SPUS STRENGTHENS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

The Administrative Services Office, in partnership with the University Health and Security Advisory Council (UHSAC), organized and sponsored an Orientation on Emergency Preparedness and Earthquake Drill for the Higher Education Department on February 17, 2023 at the SPUS New Gymnasium and SPUS Main Campus respectively.

The orientation was graced by the Chief of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Surigao del Norte, Engr. Daphnie Agonia, who imparted knowledge on earthquake awareness and preparedness.

Meanwhile, Mr. Edwin J. Caballes ,Chairman of the Committee on Distaster Preparedness and Emergency Response enumerated the school’s earthquake emergency procedure which was very important for the drill later that afternoon.

Moreover, Inspector Abel Dubduban, the City Fire Marshall of Surigao City Central Fire Station shared his expertise on fire safety precautions.

In the afternoon, an earthquake drill was executed in the Main Campus spearheaded by the Emergency Response Team of the University to strengthen emergency and disaster preparedness of the College students and employees.

It was emphasized that the said drill will focus on the correct execution of the standard Drop-Cover-and-Hold procedure on a quick but orderly manner while moving to the designated evacuation site – the Luneta Park Open Grounds fronting the University’s main gate.

“Prevention is better than cure”, Inspector Abel Dubduban pointed out during his lecture on Fire Safety Precautions.

One of the main goals of the orientation was to ensure that the school community will always be ready and resilient in the face of emergency and distasters.

The orientation on emergency preparedness and earthquake drill would not be possible without the joint effort of the Vice President for Administrative Services, Mrs .Marites Jacobo-Duncano and the members of the University Emergency Response Team. (News by Elieza Umpil | Photos by Angell Einstien Naquila, Junclyford Badajos, Clifford John Rosales, Krisha Magnaye, Cristine Santillana, Fhozenches Sepria, Steven Alba, Brithney Aliwanag and Marrie Camogao)
